Samenvatting

The introduction of the O-Train has made use of an existing rail corridor to provide high quality transit service to destinations previously poorly served by transit. It has attracted new riders to transit and reduced demand on one of Ottawa's busiest road corridor bringing environmental benefits to the City. Ottawa's light rail system is the first single operator passenger railway in North America. It is also the first full implementation of light rail transit on an existing rail freight line. Two more 'firsts' for the O-Train are the introduction of Bombardier's Talent Diesel Light Rail vehicles to the continent and the training of bus drivers to operate the trains. This project was nominated for the TAC 2001 Enironmental Achievement Award. For the covering abstract of this conference see ITRD number E211271.
