Samenvatting

The aim of the project has been to develop an automatic function for transmitting information about speed limits to the vehicle. The information is then used for limiting the speed of the car with a speed adapter. A group of volunteers tested the technology and their opinions about the system has been surveyed. In earlier trials on intelligent speed adaption systems different kinds of transmitters at the roadside were used for sending information to the vehicle and the driver. This kind of system demands a great contribution from the road administrator, community or the organisation who is responsible for the transmission of information. To cover a city like Lund with transmitters, more than 100 pieces would be needed. These factors make it desirable to develop an autonomic system for transmitting information. Using the Global Positioning System (GPS) and an additional correction (differential) signal the vehicle can be positioned fast and with great accuracy. Combining the positioning with a digital map containing information about speed limits the speed adaption function in the vehicle can be controlled automatically. The speed adapter then informs the driver with feedback (counter-force) via the accelerator pedal when the limit is exceeded. (Author/publisher)
