Samenvatting

Commercial Vehicle Driver Licensing Standards in British Columbia is designed to serve as a high-level framework document that provides priority recommendations and options for improving commercial driver licensing standards in British Columbia. The report findings also have implications for commercial driver licensing practices elsewhere. The report examines: the purpose and history of driver licensing and testing; the role of government in driver licensing and testing standards in relation to industry needs; current commercial driver licensing standards in British Columbia compared to other Canadian jurisdictions; planned or proposed changes to commercial driver licensing and testing in each province/territory; and international practices in commercial driver licensing and testing – including best practices – that are relevant to Canada. This work was supported by the BC Trucking Human Resources Planning Committee – formed under an agreement between Service Canada, the BC Trucking Association, and Teamsters Local 31.
