Samenvatting

The research was aimed at verification of possibility to use saliva for alcohol determination as exact equivalent of blood samples or breath. 24 persons (12 men and 12 women) have taken part in the experiments. Men drank 0.70 g and women 0.60 g of ethanol as neat vodka. Saliva, breath and blood samples were collected at 15 minutes intervals timing from the end of alcohol consumption. Blood and saliva alcohol concentrations were determined by means of headspace gas chromatography using Perkin Elmer Autosystem and breath testing using Alcometr A 2.0. The pharmacokinetics of ethanol in blood (BAC), breath (BrAC) and saliva (SAC) were determined. Ethanol absorption was faster in breath and saliva compared to blood.
