Samenvatting

The biofidelity of the production prototype European Side Impact Dummy-EUROSID-has been evaluated against requirements defined by ISO. Impactor tests, drop tests and sled tests have been conducted to assess the biofidelity of the head, neck, thorax, shoulder, abdomen and pelvis of the dummy. Additionally, full-scale impact tests were performed to compare the responses of EUROSID with cadaver responses in identical tests. Special emphasis has been given to the comparison of protection criteria obtained from dummy tests and the injury severity of cadavers in impactor-, drop-, sled- or full-scale tests. It appears that the response of the production prototype EUROSID in padded and some rigid impact tests is in good agreement with the cadaver reponses, while EUROSID appears to be too stiff in some other rigid impact tests. The injury assessment capabilities of EUROSID seem to be promising. It appears that the ISO requirements show inconsistencies and that the definition of some test set-ups should be improved.
