Experimental car-pedestrian collisions were carried out with dummies of various types and with human subjects, with the car striking the pedestrian laterally at speed of 40km/h. The aim was to compare the responses of these dummies, some of which are designed for lateral impact, with those of the cadavers under identical impact conditions. The main conclusions of this investigation are
