Samenvatting

Comparisons of safety and traffic efficiency on pedestrian crossings can be made in terms of accident risk and mean queueing delays. For a limited sample of at grade crossings, the following ranking was found; the mean queueing delay to pedestrians was least at uncontrolled crossings with centre refugees, it was greater at striped crossings without refugees, and greatest at signal controlled crossings.
