Samenvatting

The comprehensive cost of motor vehicle injuries exceeded $294 billion in 1988. This paper estimates costs per nonfatal injury and for all nonfatal injuries by body region and MAIS severity. It also estimates the functional capacity loss and probability of permanent work- related disability resulting from nonfatal injury. Setting priorities for vehicle crashworthiness is difficult because representative, AIS- codable data on fatal injury by body region are lacking.
