Samenvatting

This chapter considers the use of computer-aided design techniques in ergonomics. Brief details are given of kinematic systems including ANYBODY, BOEMAN, BURFORD, CAR, COMBIMAN, CREWCHIEF, CYBERMAN, ErgoSHAPE, ErgoSPACE, FRANKY, MINTAC, SAMMIE, TADAPS and WERNER and comparisons tabulated. The advantages of man-modelling CAD systems are discussed including time, cost and accuracy. Communication between both scientists working on a particular project, and legislators who define the relevant standards, is also discussed. The SAMMIE system is described in more detail including its use for workplace-modelling and man-modelling. Interaction with SAMMIE and interfacing SAMMIE with other systems are discussed. A general methodology for using SAMMIE in automobile design is outlined and other application areas noted.
