Samenvatting

In this paper, the computerized work station for traffic engineers, CATE (Computer Aided Traffic Engineering) which incorporates the SIGMA (SIGnalplan MAnagement) software is described. CATE is a state-of-the-art interactive system developed during the last five years by Heusch-Boesefeld Systems Technologies Ltd. The hardware and software requirements are outlined. The functions which CATE can be utilized for are: (1) the design of an intersection plan, using computer aided design; (2) intergreen time calculations; (3) evaluation of traffic volume data; (4) calculation and processing of signal programs (fixed time and traffic actuated signals); (5) the setup of logic for traffic actuated plans; (6) evaluation of time distance diagrams; (7) trip generation; (8) network calculation and optimization (SIGMA); and (9) the down loading of all data required for traffic computers and controllers.
