This paper presents a computer program for standardizing, analysing and forecasting different road accident types. It consists of two modules. The first is an "initial filtering module" (ART) which stores information about accidents in a standard way. It re-codes and classifies raw accident data into 4 main divisions: a) general information; b) environmental aspects; c) road user type involved; and d) driver details. Each division is further subdivided. In the general accident section, data are provided on the driving manoeuvres that contributed to or caused the accident; the severity of the accident; and the type of collision. The environmental section data consists of: a) the location of the accident; b) the road layout; c) the type of traffic control at the accident location; and d) environmental conditions (weather, lighting, road surface texture). The road user characteristics collected are: a) the number of people involved; b) the road user type (pedestrian, cyclist, etc) and c) age. Driver details include driving experiences and "condition" (e.g. drunk). The second module consists of a program which can carry out analyses on this data.
