Samenvatting

This paper starts with an overview of accident analysis carried out on a number of 136 trucks engaged in accidents. Account is given of injury severity, causation of injury, seating positions and the frequencies of ejection or entrapment of lorry drivers or passengers. Furthermore, the analysis deals with the accident mode and the location of the accident. The survey then considers the degree of protection likely to be provided by safety belts, energy absorbing materials and softening of surfaces as well as by the design of the passenger compartment. The paper ends with some comments on the need for harmonization between safety standards. For the covering abstract of the conference, see IRRD 837684.
