Samenvatting

The Moving Maglev (flying) Highway System reported from the Second ITS World Congress is introduced. A moving/flying (maglev) road presents a new paradigm for road traffic systems. In developing the new system, the creation of various concepts of the moving/flying road and the selection of the optimum concept are of critical importance. The selection will not only determine the overall performance of the moving/flying road as a new traffic system, but also the Life-Cycle Cost (LCC). This study examines particularly the performance of various support systems of the moving/flying road, including wheel support and magnetic levitation. It also compares the service levels and LCC of each system and examines the concept selection approach. The study clarifies the important issues that should be considered during the development work by introducing the new concept of Innovation Cost Down Ratio (ICDR). The study introduces the concept selection approach called "physical based selection flow." For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
