Samenvatting

In view of the need for economy in the use of electricity, current practices of street lighting in the U.K. are reviewed in depth under the headings of design, equipment and practice. Lamps, control gear, lanterns, photo-electric cells, cables, cost of high efficiency equipment, some operational methods, downward light, and signs are considered. It is concluded that greater efficiency is desirable in most aspects in order to maintain the reasonable standards of street lighting which are at present upheld.
