Samenvatting

A number of assumptions and background theoretical issues which relate to the design of driver training programmes are examined. It is concluded that traditional driver training programmes have not produced useful results, though the manipulation of the consequences of safe driving can produce significant accident savings, especially for experienced drivers. It is asserted that driving should be studied by looking at exemplar safe drivers.
