Samenvatting
The present study tests the hypothesis that the discontinuity, i.e. contour, introduced in the luminance gradient by increasing the inducing luminance prevents brightness induction. Dark contours were inserted between the inducing fields and the fields constituting the paradox. The results support the hypothesis. Two types of contour effects earlier reported in the literature are discussed as possible explanations to these results.
