Samenvatting

Fact: in 2000, 41,000 people lost their lives on European roads with untold human and economic consequences. 14,000 of these deaths were directly attributed to single vehicle collisions, a figure where the quality of the infrastructures can even more clearly make the difference. This document explains why current road safety policies should be rethought in view of adopting an integrated approach which recognises the interplay of driver behaviour, vehicle design and the infrastructure.
