Samenvatting

This paper presents some aspects of a research carried out by Biecheler, Cauzard, Comyn and Fontaine at INRETS. Studies of drivers' attitudes and behaviour have shown that relations exist between driving, offences and accidents, socio economic factors and social characteristics of road users. Analyses of risk and accident highlight the links between sub groups, also defined by social items, and the kind of injury accidents in which they are most often involved. The analyst of attitudes data, or accident records, would like to explore simultaneously the aspects of mobility and exposure, attitudes and behaviour, risk and accident as they are part of a unique system with a set of structural and probability relations. The objective being a better assessment of risk and its control by means of prevention. Data is available concerning the 3 domains, but on separate basis. The assumption is made that it is possible to pass information through the various linked domains as far as a specific method is used. A rather satisfying way consisted of defining a priori homogeneous social groups, according to items common to the different domains. Each of those groups is then described by the most significant items from the three fields, and the results put side by side. Groups are sorted by their relative risk index and grouped in higher, medium or lower risk level. According to the defined groups, a quite good description is obtained of relations between mobility, attitude and accident in their social context. A hypothesis is then developed about determinant of risk production in the different groups and see what remedial measures could suit to their characteristics. (A)
