THIS PAPER DEALS IN DETAIL WITH THE BOLTZMANN-LIKE THEORIES FOR TRAFFIC FLOW. AFTER A CRITICAL REVIEW OF THE WORKS OF PRIGOGINE ET AL, IN ORDER TO ELIMINATE SOME AMBIGUOUSNESS IN THE ABOVE THEORY, THE CASE OF "RIGID" DRIVING PROGRAM IS ANALYZED. IN PARTICULAR THE HOMOGENEOUS AND TIME INDEPENDENT EQUATIONS ARE SHOWN TO BE SOLVABLE AND THE SOLUTIONS ARE COMPARED WITH THOSE OBTAINED BY PRIGOGINE ET AL (1960). THE GENERAL CASE OF A CONCENTRATION DEPENDENT DRIVING PROGRAM IS CONSIDERED AND THE RELATED EQUATIONS ARE OBTAINED. UNDER THE SIMPLIFYING ASSUMPTION OF "UNIFORM ADAPTABILITY" THE HOMOGENEOUS AND STATIONARY SOLUTIONS ARE SHOWN TO BE APPROXIMATED BY THE "SHIFT MODEL" PROPOSED BY MUNJAL ET AL (1971).(Author/publisher).
