The urban region of Lyon, in France, is served by a motorway network. Traffic management was necessary to give it the flexibility it needed to fulfil all of its functions at all periods. This system, named CORALY (Coordination of Regulations du trafic sur les voies rapides de l'Aggolomeration Lyonnaise), involves five infrastructure owners, who have set up an organization to handle traffic in common and in real time. The results of the first year of operation have been, among others, a substantial reduction in congestion during peak summer periods. These results are presented briefly. The organisation and cost of the system are also described.
