The purpose of this paper is to show the correlation between Finite Element (FE) models of the human head with local brain motion in the instance of head impact. The current FE model has fixed mesh density, that of a 50-year-old male. Tests were conducted to evaluate how the FE model needs to be developed in order to represent the brain damage suffered by different specimens. Significantly lower values of the sheer properties of the human brain than currently are used in most three-dimensional FE models today are needed to predict the localized brain response of an impact to the human head.
