Samenvatting

An expansion to the Metropolitan Toronto SCOOT Urban Traffic Control System was installed during 1996. Simultaneously, an interface was configured between the new SCOOT UTC System and the Traffic Management System (known as RESCU) used to monitor and control the Gardiner - Lake Shore Corridor in downtown Toronto. Traffic levels and driver behaviour on the part of the area under UTC control, Lake Shore Boulevard, are closely linked to traffic patterns on the Gardiner Expressway due to the geographical proximity of SCOOT and RESCU. The interface was designed to improve the monitoring and control of the two routes, and to provide improved flexibility in responding to incidents.
