Samenvatting

Two scenarios of a reduced public transport supply in Vienna, Austria, were developed in the project MS-Wien and their effects analysed and compared with the existing situation. The first scenario consisted of a reduced public transport supply but no additional road construction for private cars. The second scenario consisted of a reduced public transport supply and additional road construction and parking provision. A cost benefit analysis was performed, comparing the existing situation and the two scenarios. Air pollution, energy consumption, travel time, noise pollution, infrastructure for private car traffic, spatial separation and road accidents were used as indicators. It was shown that for every 1 € saved by reducing public transport, there were cost increases of 1.32€ for the first scenario and2€ for scenario 2.
