The EU is likely to miss its target of halving road deaths between 2001 and 2010. For the first time since 2001, 2007 saw no reduction in the total number of deaths in the EU. The Road Safety PIN Report 2008 highlights achievements and shortcomings of European countries’ road safety policies. Apart from monitoring progress in reducing deaths between 2001 and 2007, the report provides an overview of countries’ performances in three other areas of road safety namely: motorcyclists and mopeds; motorways; elderly people.
