Samenvatting

In the UK, Coventry City Council is to spend #6.5 million on upgrading its urban traffic control (UTC) system. An interview with Colin Eastman, head of Strategic Transportation with the council, is presented. The upgrade obtained funding from the PrimeLines initiative, which aimed at improving bus travel in Coventry, Local Travel Plan funding, Section 106 funding and a contribution from IKEA. Contracts were awarded to Peek for the provision of the UTC system, control room and communications systems, Tenet for the common database, Tyco for CCTV cameras, Techspan for a car park variable message sign system, Peek for equipment maintenance, and ACIS for a real time information system. Details are given of the implementation of the planned UTC upgrade and the involvement of Coventry in the urban traffic management and control (UTMC) project for the West Midlands.
