Samenvatting

The study analyses travel and crash data to determine how the risk of being involved in a crash, or suffering an injury, varies as a function of time of day and day of week conditions. The report focuses on three levels of risk, i.e., the risk of crash or injury per unit of travel, the risk of injury or fatality given a crash, and the risk of fatality per injury. The results are based on three data sources: NPTS (National Personal Transportation Survey), GES (General Estimates System), and FARS (Fatal Accident Reporting System), and are presented in a number of tables and graphs. A set of findings and conclusions is also included in the report identifying and describing the variations found in the risk level by time conditions. The similarity between the variation in the level of risk and the variation in the proportion of intoxicated drivers in fatal crashes is also examined in the report. (A)
