Samenvatting

The Consumers Union of U.S. Inc. bought and tested 15 children's seats one semi reclining infant carrier and one child's harness. Most of the restraints proved shockingly inadequate. In crash tests with an instrumented dummy that was proportioned and weighted to simulate a three-year-old child, some of the tested devices failed and several distorted the dummy's spine. Some allowed the dummy's head to slam into the simulated instrument panel. & some allowed the seat belt to dig into the dummy's abdomen. Because of such performance, 12 of the tested children's seats were rated not acceptable. All the tested models bore a label certifying compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213.
