Samenvatting

A good bicycle policy should go beyond the construction of segregated bicycle facilities. Segregation is not the best solution in all cases. Discussions about the desirability of segregated facilities are based on the incompatibility of fast riding motor and bicycle traffic. This incompatibility can be solved either by segregation, or by decreasing intensity and motor traffic speed. Many discussions on this issue follow from badly designed segregated facilities. This paper discusses the desirability of segregation and integration at different combinations of intensity and motor traffic speed, and characteristics of the situation.
