Samenvatting

This paper is concerned with techniques for the examination of driver behaviour in situations typically associated with a high occurrence of accidents. The advantages of shortfalls of observational techniques, verbal protocols and structured interviews are discussed, and recommendations made for styles of data capture. It is concluded that no single technique meets all the requirements of the future vehicle systems designer, but when used in conjunction, useful data is obtainable.
