Samenvatting

In order to minimize future congestion at freeway interchanges, access control on crossroutes may be desirable near interchanges. A design aid was developed which would identify the elements controlling the desirable distance between a ramp terminal and the nearest access point along a crossroute. The controlling elements were determined and approximately 60 of the most common and important design situations were studied in detail. A coding or reference system was developed to aid in the definition or description of all possible design situations. Equations for critical traffic movements were then used in determining the distance over which access control was required. Examples were given of the use of the equations.
