Samenvatting

This paper discusses two approaches to influencing unwanted traffic rule violation, in this case speeding, with one based on infrastructure measures and one on telematics. In the first experiment modifications were carried out to sections of two rural roads where the speed limit was 80 km/h. Modifications included replacing white lines with blocks of chippings, installing signs and providing stripes on the road surface. The telematics approach considered the possibility of equipping both the road infrastructure and vehicle with advanced telematics for the purposes of feedback and tutoring. Subjects in a simulator were given visual and auditory tutoring messages when they deviated from normative behaviour. In both cases considerable speed reduction was observed.
