Samenvatting
This paper reviews the progress of the UK police service in addressing the recommendations of the PACTS (Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety) report on road traffic flow and enforcement (July 1999). These relate to the introduction of driver improvement schemes, investment by local authorities in camera technology, traffic speed enforcement, the hypothecation pilot linked to camera enforcement, casualty reduction, and performance indicators. Topical issues in the traffic and road policing are discussed: drink driving and riding, drugs driving, speed enforcement, an investigative model and manual for road deaths, human rights, and the Vehicle Crime Reduction Action Team (VCRAT).
