Samenvatting

This paper was presented at the `Transportation Technology Innovations' session. As ITS technology becomes more widely used across Canada and around the world, the data both required and produced, will grow ten fold. In order to properly evaluate this great amount of information properly, certain computer based technologies must be implemented as a part of the overall ITS solution. One of those technologies is (GIS) Geographic Information Systems. Based on information collected for a current Industry Canada study, this paper will define the current GIS-T technologies now in use, identify the current integration issues in both public and private industry, and examine ways that they can be overcome.
