Cutting down and slowing down: changes in car use and speeding on Scotland's roads.

Two recent studies in Scotland on cutting car use and reducing driving speed are described. The willingness of car users to consider alternative modes and to reduce car use is discussed. In a survey for Lothian & Borders Safety Camera Partnership 26% of die-hard drivers claimed to be trying to use their car less, compared with 69% of malcontented motorists and 80 % of aspiring environmentalists. 51% of drivers were making an effort to reduce their speed. Trying to use the car less was statistically associated with trying to cut current driving speed. For the covering abstract see ITRD E138063.
