The European project Co-operative Vehicle-Infrastructure Systems (CVIS) is funded within the 6th Framework Program of the European Commission and develops harmonized technologies for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication and networking. COMO (COoperative MOnitoring) is one subproject of CVIS and has the task to elaborate an agreedset of traffic data, traffic information and traffic messages and provideit in a standardized format to CVIS applications. COMO consists of the four core modules `LDM Manager`, `Data Processing and Fusion`, `Computation of Local Traffic State` and `COMO API`. The resulting elaborated data are used, among others, by the CVIS strategic routing application providing enhanced routing functionalities which consider strategies pre-defined by a traffic management system in order to increase the transport system efficiency. This paper provides a brief overview of the CVIS cooperative monitoring (COMO).
