Samenvatting

This paper reviews what is known of cycle use and the trends in use and in casualties in Great Britain, and discusses the factors that may influence cycling. It outlines the reasons behind the TRRL research programme on cycling, indicates the results that have been obtained from the cycle route experiments, and points to the many areas where there is insufficient knowledge to allow the inclusion of cyclists in the conventional transport planning process. For the covering abstract of the symposium see IRRD abstract no 248524.
