Samenvatting

The rapid growth in the popularity of bicycle riding in recent years has been accompanied by an increase in the number of accident fatalities to pedal cyclists. Two tables are presented which examine the death rate among riders of pedal cycles by type of accident in the U.S., 1960 to 1974 and by age in the U.S. 1965 to 1974, respectively. Although accident fatalities resulting from collisions with moving motor vehicles are high, nonfatal injuries are more numerous from cycling accidents not involving motor vehicles.
