This issue of Current Topics includes over 70 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on cycling safety, including cyclist behaviour, road safety training for cyclists, prevention of injury to cyclists, design and effectiveness of safety helmets, and studies of cycling accidents and accident risk. Further subjects covered include the effectiveness of cycle lanes, junction design, education, road lighting, carriageway marking and policy initiatives. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 2002 and 2005. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database. For the previous issue of this title, Current Topics in Transport 2.3 (Cycling safety update (2000-2001), see C 21560 S. Current Topics in Transport 2.2, covered abstracts of publications added to the Database between 1996 and 1999, see C 12833 S. Abstracts for the years 1993-1996 can be found in Current Topics in Transport 2.1 (C 6160 S).
