The Danish Road Institute (DRI) is collaborating with the Dutch Road and Hydraulic Engineering Institute of the Directorate General of Public Works and Water Management (DWW) in research on noise reducing pavements under the title DRI-DWW Noise Abatement Programme. The existing Dutch programme objectives were to reduce road traffic noise associated with road pavements and tyres and also to improve noise barrier efficiency. As the DWW is reinforcing its workforce, DWW will pay DRI up to 85% of the project costs, with DRI financing the remainder. The DRI-DWW Noise Abatement Programme will consist of the following seven projects, which will be carried out under DRI project management: the causes of ravelling; the acoustic consequences of clogging of porous asphalt; development of thin, noise-reducing long-life pavements; study of the influence of using a modified binder on the durability of porous pavements; measurement of noise on Danish standard pavements and test pavements; cost benefit analysis; knowledge sharing between DRI-DWW and other FEHRL member countries.
