Samenvatting

The Danish Travel Card Project started in 1995 when the Greater Copenhagen Authority (HUR), the Danish State Railways (DSB) and the Copenhagen Metro decided to develop an electronic travel card for the Greater Copenhagen Region. In 2000, the project was expanded throughout the country. A jointly owned company, Rejeskort A/S, was set up to handle all contact with suppliers. Three bids have been received for establishing, installing and operating the scheme. The benefits of the Travel Card to customers and transport operators are outlined. The Travel Card will be a chip-based plastic card that can be used on trains and buses anywhere in Denmark. Details are given of the use of the Travel Card, automatic fare calculation, check-in and check-out process, Travel Card sales methods, payment options, back office system, and system delivery.
