In the frame of its transportation policy, the Brussels Regional Government is aiming at improving the traffic flow by optimizing the road network management and improving the communication with the traveller. This relies on a better knowledge of the traffic behaviour, tied to the events which can disturb it, and the status of the equipment meant to control it, by means of a permanent evaluation of the « level of service » of the network. The information server described in the paper centralizes traffic data supplied in real time by various equipments, and supervises the traffic in Brussels and its surrounding areas. It is based on a client/server open architecture, already linked to workstations allowing for graphic display of the network status and interactive management of the events. An outstanding feature of this approach is to provide easy connection of external applications. The presented system is thus the focal point of an evolutive traffic management system. (A)
