Samenvatting
Research in the DRIVE II program that lead to the development of one of the prototypes of experimental vehicles in the `Detection, Enforcement and Tutoring for Error Reduction' (DETER) project concerns two investigation lines. Firstly, a feasibility study on a `Driver Impairment Monitor' (DIM) has been carried out to assess the driver state from a limited number of vehicle parameters. The aim is to determine whether the driver is still capable of driving the vehicle adequately. Secondly, a prototype for automatic policing, tutoring and enforcement has been developed. Three years of experimental research and development included studies into behavioural effects, effects on mental load, and acceptance of these systems. (A)
