Facing the emergence of environmental constraints, the seriousness of social stakes and the importance of economic problems, new ways of organizing daily mobility in expanding metropolitan areas are looked for in this paper. Intermodality strategies aiming at operationalizing complementarity between various transport modes are, in this perspective, very promising. They mean in particular instituting a hierarchical model of networks organization and operation, combining so their respective assets for the users greatest satisfaction. Their organization implies the institution and the perpetuation of institutional, technical, economic, partnerships at the judicious territorial scale. (A) The English title of the paper is: "From exclusive car use to `intermodality' in metropolis"
