The call of economic principles in traffic and transport The Netherlands are out of pace. The development of EU price policy is about harmonisation of the transport sector and not about congestion pricing and passenger transport. After the decay of the Kilometre charge there seems to be no chances left. However, there are lots of examples of successful price measures outside the Netherlands, both in Europe and in the US. Conditions for success are: the option not to make use of the price measure, commitment with the aims of the price measure, and the allocation of the revenues in the same region. A development in the direction of value pricing might be the best chance within the Netherlands. Meaning: realising a customer relation from the road providers with the motorists. After that he could offer extra service that even might be paid for by the road user. (Author/publisher)
