This article contains the lecture which was read during the study days organized by the section of civil Engineering in Essen on 17 and 18 April 1969. By means of regional traffic planning efforts are made to realize the starting points of the national traffic planning in a limited area, while the municipal traffic plans are combined. This comes to a compromise as the various starting points and aims differ.
