Samenvatting

The city of Amsterdam wants to minimize the negative impact of motorized road traffic on the environment. Road traffic implies both the transportation of goods and persons. One of the tasks of the Department of Environmental Control and Policy Amsterdam is inducing companies to traffic demand management (TDM). The Department is working on an operational and a policy level. This is especially the case in the granting of licenses to operate. In the Netherlands, the Environmental Protection Act requires most companies to have such a license. TDM companies are requested by the city of Amsterdam to make a traffic demand plan which consists, on a minimum base, of an accessory approach plan for implementation. By decreasing the negative impact on the environment the Department helps to create possibilities for better surroundings and a more regulated traffic. More and more cities in the Netherlands are copying the approach. (A)
