The “Mobiliteitstoets” (Mobility check) as an aid in accessibility for freight transport. Traffic and transportation should be considered during the design phase of industrial and residential areas and facilities. This may seem logical, but in reality it either happens to late or doesn’t happen at all. To assist de-centralized authorities, investors and other parties involved, the “Mobiliteitstoets” was designed. The “Mobiliteitstoets” is a tool which incorporates traffic and transportation aspects in spatial design in a timely and explicit way. The “Mobiliteitstoets” shows insight in the traffic and transportation effects of spatial planning and possibilities to handle these effects. In the design phase of projects which generate transportation of goods in a municipal area (such as industrial areas en shopping centres), the goal is to achieve more attention for a safer, more efficient, and more durable traffic and transportation network. The application of several of the instruments from the “Mobiliteitstoets” also can contribute to an improvement of the factors determining the business location decisions. (Author/publisher)
