In recent years the Dutch Ministry of Transport has published several annual editions of the National Traffic and Transport Account (NTTA). These editions should have developed into a so-called social account, comprising all social welfare effects of the Dutch transport system. However this approach has raised some practical as well as theoretical problems. After an evaluation of the figures in the NTTA, the article is concludes with a plea for a real account, containing all financial information on the Dutch traffic infrastructure, i.e. roads, railroads and inland waterways. For that a reference is made to the Swiss road infrastructure account.
