Samenvatting
The Dutch government's policy is supposed to reduce car use. However it stimulates this at the same time by the application of different subsidies. A "healthy" increase of car use can be reached, provided that the traveller indeed pays all the costs he or she produces. However, when only variable costs are taken into account, this will result in a threefold increase in fuel costs. As alternatives to such a system, it is recommended that the reimbursement of travel expenses is abolished and that the fixed costs are increased.
