In applying monetary evaluation methods of infrastructural projects and other policy measures in transportation, travel time gains and losses are converted into money units, using a value-of-time. For establishing value-of-time measures in freight transport several methods can be used. Models for choices in freight transport, such as the choice of mode, can be based on aggregate data and disaggregate data. A further distinction is that between models on observed choice data (Revealed Preference) and models on choices of carriers and/or shippers between hypothetical alternatives (Stated Preference). These methods are critically examined.
